Pennsylvania's state Senate includes 50 seats, currently dominated by Republicans as noted above. Each state senator represents a district whose boundaries were drawn by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission, a body consisting of five members: the leading Democrat and Republican in the state House, the leading Democrat and Republican in the state Senate, and a fifth member mutually agreeable to the four other members or appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The districting process happens after the release of the apportionment data from the decennial (ten-year) US Census.
